Cultural Events
Since 1974 the New York Shaolin Golden Dragon Dance Team has performed at many civic events on the US East Coast, such as celebrating the US Bicentennial in 1976; the opening of the Gardner D. Stout Hall of Asian Peoples at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City in 1980. In 1981 the team preformed at the opening of the Astor Chinese Garden Court at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the first permanent cultural exchange between the U.S. and the People's Republic of China.
Since 1984, the Calgary Shaolin Golden Dragon Martial Arts Team has performed in many Chinese cultural festivals and parades. The team has also performed in other types of festivals, including the Calgary's Lilac Festival and the Calgary Stampede Parade. The team has also performed at special events, including welcoming Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh at the Province of Alberta's centennial year, in front of 17,000 Albertans at the Pengrowth Saddledome.

In 1981, the Honan Shaolin Golden Dragon Team put on a show for an exclusive museum dinner attended by a roster of luminaries like Mary Rockefeller, Phyllis Astor, Douglas Dillon, Wang Zicheng, Henry Kissinger, Terence Cardinal Cooke, and I.M. Pei. To our chagrin, the New York Times wrote about the event without mentioning us by name and misleadingly insinuated that our Dragon had been manufactured specifically for this evening's performance - which was untrue.
