The Mind-Body Connection

Western medical care treats ailments of the mind and the body as separate fields of study. A review of literature on physical activity and mental health by Paula Bingham* bears this out, in spite the fact that recent research supports the usefulness of the biopsychosocial health (mind–body connection) model. This is most clearly manifested in how provincial regulations in Canada specifically are designed to discourage interdisciplinary approaches to patient treatment by preventing seamless collaboration between doctors from different disciplines.
